And, well, if Chuck likes them then that's a pretty good sign. Like Max, Chuck is a decent litmus test for judging someone's character.
Man, if him from four months ago were here to see him thinking this..
Raleigh takes a moment to consider just how drastically things have changed. It's crazy. Good but still crazy. Sitting here like a real person gossiping about their friends as they decorate a Christmas tree in a moment of soft, domestic bliss. He honestly never thought he'd see the day, least of all with Chuck Hansen. How incredible.
And it turns out to be a pretty perfect success of an evening. They dress the tree, they eat dinner, they do a little perimeter patrol of the grounds and then settle in for the night. One beautiful night where nothing has gone wrong. Nothing has tried to kill them and no one is shattering their mind. Just a little slice of Christmas Pie, curled together in bed. One decent(ish) night of sleep.
Because God knows what's coming tomorrow. Somehow that makes them appreciate it even more.

"That's a good idea. Cellar's full'a wood. I've been thinking about digging an escape tunnel out.. just in case we ever need."
no subject
"You're really going all apocalypse. aren't you."
But he's listening, it's not something to be dismissed.
"Well. Can't hurt to put one in both houses."
no subject
Raleigh nods, though. He is. Kinda. Then again this feels pretty apocalyptic.
"Come out somewhere in the woods.. get out of the house if something breaks in."
no subject
Yeah that's a good idea.
"It's not a bad idea. We should do that soon...if we can. Grounds probably pretty frozen."
no subject
"Yeah, I was thinking about that. Maybe asking someone with, I dunno. Some kind of magic? Help us out?"
Though it almost feels like cheating and he doesn't mind the hard work.
no subject
"Maybe, yeah. There's apparently a guy running around with a flamethrower. Maybe he can thaw it or something."
no subject
But that gives him an idea.
"My friend Mako has fire powers. I wonder if he could do the same..." Musing aloud.
"Actually I think he said his brother can control the earth. Maybe he could just.. make a tunnel form."
ive lost all sense of when this actually takes place fuckit
"Wu's Mako? Who's his brother? How many of them are here?"
Jesus.
Nobody knows anymore. Mid Dec?
uuuh suuure
"Ah yeah...I think he mentioned him to me. Haven't met him either."
no subject
"I like them. That group. They seem like good guys."
no subject
They're good kids, he reckons, though they're not exactly kids. Chuck and Wu are the same damn age.
